Memorial Sites

Japan’s atomic bomb memorials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki serve as powerful reminders of the past, offering spaces for reflection, education, and hope.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is home to the Atomic Bomb Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that survived the blast, alongside the Peace Memorial Museum, which documents the tragic events of August 6, 1945. The park’s Flame of Peace and the Children's Peace Monument , adorned with thousands of paper cranes, symbolise a wish for a peaceful future.

The Nagasaki Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum offer a deeply moving experience, sharing survivor stories and exploring the consequences of the bombing on August 9, 1945. The Peace statue, with its outstretched hand pointing to the sky, stands as a symbol of hope and resilience. Nearby, the Urakami Cathedral—once destroyed in the blast—has been rebuilt, standing as a testament to Nagasaki’s strength and recovery.

A visit to these sites is a profound experience, reminding us of the importance of peace and the resilience of the human spirit.
